Dr. Monica Schmitt
Dr. Monica Schmitt, PsyD., specializes in maternal mental health with a particular focus on the prevention, assessment and treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She also works with mothers and fathers who are struggling with pregnancy, the adjustment to parenthood, infertility, perinatal loss, birth trauma, NICU experiences, and medical complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. Throughout her career, she has also worked with college and graduate students, couples and adults who are struggling with depression, anxiety, stress, grief and loss, relationship issues and difficult life transitions.
Dr. Schmitt’s therapeutic approach is warm, accepting and collaborative. Her style as a therapist encourages a relationship of trust and a sense of safety for her clients. Dr. Schmitt holds space for her client’s to honor and process their thoughts and feelings during sessions. She works with clients to alleviate symptoms, to manage stressors more effectively, to enhance self-awareness, to discover their inner strength and wisdom and to improve self-care. She empowers and gently encourages her clients to go outside of their comfort zone to find greater understanding and meaning in their lives to create lasting, long term changes. Dr. Schmitt has a passion for cultivating client’s intuition, creativity and joy.
As a clinician, she sees each individual client as a unique person and welcomes all to her practice. Given this, she tailors her therapeutic approach to each client’s needs and to each client’s strengths.
